5 Information Technology Components

Here are the 5 Information Technology Components. But before that, let us have an idea about Information technology. Let’s get started.

What are Information Technology Components?

Information Technology Components are the basic building blocks of any system. A computer is a system that consists of different components.

For example, a computer can be composed of a keyboard, mouse, monitor, hard disk, RAM, motherboard, processor, graphics card, audio card, etc. These are all the components of a computer. Similarly, in this course, we will learn about the five basic components of information technology.

What are the 5 Information Technology Components?

1. Hardware

2. Software

3. Networking

4. Internet

5. Security

So, let’s go into details.

1. Hardware

Hardware refers to the physical components of your computer system which you can touch and feel with your hands. The components used in computer systems are called hardware components. For example, the keyboard is one of the hardware components of your computer system because you can touch it with your hands and use it for inputting data into your computer system. Similarly, the mouse is another hardware component because it allows you to point to various objects on your screen and click on them for selection purposes. The monitor is also a hardware component because it allows you to see what’s happening inside your computer system.

2. Software

Software refers to the programs that are installed in your computer system. The programs that you install in your computer system are called software applications. Also, the word software is an abbreviation of word software applications.

For example, when you install MS Word in your computer system, it will act as a software application for you. Similarly, when you install the Firefox web browser in your computer system, it will act as a software application for you as well.

3. Networking

Networking is the process of connecting different computers and devices so that they can communicate with each other over a network. For example, if you connect two computers through a network cable, then those two computers will be able to share files and other resources over the network cable.

Similarly, if you connect a VoIP phone and a VoIP router using an Ethernet cable, then those two devices will be able to communicate with each other over the Ethernet cable as well.

4. Internet

Internet refers to the collection of networks and routers that are connected through an internet backbone (or internet core). There are many networks and routers present on the internet backbone (or internet core).

For example, many ISPs provide internet access to their customers through internet routers. Similarly, many government organizations provide internet access to their customers through internet routers as well. The collection of all these networks and internet routers is known as the internet and it is highly interconnected and interdependent with one another.

5. Security

Security refers to protecting your data from unauthorized access or modification by third parties or malicious hackers who might try to steal your data. Even try to do some malicious activities inside your computer system without your knowledge or consent.

So, to prevent such unwanted activities from happening inside your computer system, there must be some security measures put into place by the administrator of that computer system.
